Sunday Service 23 December 2013

The singing of Carols was the main focus of activities for folk at Holmfirth Methodist Church last week. On Tuesday evening a group sang in the Pioneer Supermarket raising money for Christian Aid; on Thursday the usual Thursday coffee morning was held in Church when over 70 people enjoyed coffee and mince pies round tables while singing carols and joining in Christmas worship led by Kath Beetlestone; on Friday evening, members offering Coffee on the Bridge to revellers sang carols for over an hour and on Sunday evening members enjoyed a Service of carols and readings in Church.

Sunday Service 27 January 2013

"Jesus shall take the highest honour" was the rousing opening hymn chosen by local preacher, Michael Tolson, when he led morning worship ar Holmfirth Methodist Church on Sunday 27th January. Before the children left for their own activities in Junior Church, Michael asked for examples of recent good news, and it was to the subject of good news that he returned in his sermon.

Sunday Service 10 February 2013

Sunday morning worship at Holmfirth Methodist Church last Sunday, February 10th, was led by Dr Nick Martin. His enthusiastic, humorous and thought-provoking delivery took the congregation “up mountains”, “along rivers” and to “thin places” and his address touched on the difficulties of sustaining belief throughout Lent and Easter and on the many different pictures of God.

Sunday morning worship at Holmfirth Methodist Church last Sunday, February 17th, took a very different and exciting format, exploring the temptations of Jesus.

Report of Service 4 December 2012

Last Sunday’ worship at Holmfirth Methodist Church began with the lighting of the first candle in the Advent ring by Martyn and Cathy Till. The service was led by Barbara Rochester supported by Margaret Heeley’s worship team.

Naturally on the first Sunday in Advent the theme was “Waiting”. A short drama , performed by Jonathan, Laura, Margaret and members of the Junior Church, and a dramatic reading, read by Phil, Martin, Peter and Laura, both provided appropriate illustrations of the theme. As usual the lively singing was beautifully accompanied by Barbara at the piano.

Junior Church Nativity Service

A dramatic presentation of the Nativity Story, based on Luke Chapter 2, was the focus of morning worship at Holmfirth Methodist Church last Sunday. The main characters; a shepherd (Peter Beetlestone), an angel (Andrew Denton), a wise man (Keith Kitson) and an innkeeper (Michael Tolson), led the large congregation through the familiar story.

Weekend Report for November 24/25 2012

Last weekend focussed on the teenagers at Holmfirth Methodist Church. On Saturday members of the Sunday night Youth Club and their leaders organised a magnificent three course meal for 65 members of the Church and friends. Together with a raffle and a hilarious auction of items generously donated by local businesses the evening raised over £1200 for three chosen charities – The Forget me not Children’s Hospice, The Teenage Cancer Trust and Christian Aid.

Young People's Restaurant

The Restaurant is to be held on 24 November 2012 at Holmfirth Methodist Church commencing at 7pm.

This is a biennial event which brings together the Church Members, the Youth Club and the Community and always takes place on the last Saturday in November.

History of the Holmfirth Methodist Circuit

To celebrate the bi-centenary of the Holmfirth Methodist Circuit, a special book was editted by Peter Beetlestone, detailing the history of the circuit and the people involved.
